Humayun was defeated in the war of 1540 between Humayun and Sher Shah Suri. As a result, Suri became the powerhouse of Delhi.

He built a fort near Delhi, presently known as Shergarh Fort. When Humayun again captured Delhi, his attention also turned toward this fort.

Sher Shah used the Shergarh fort as his military camp to control the activities of the Hada rulers of Bundi.

He built many buildings. Both the rulers had contributed significantly to the development of this fort. It is said that Humayun died due to falling from the defense, and Humayun's tomb is located in this fort.

During the revolt of 1857, the Mughal emperor's prince hid in Humayun's tomb. But he could not escape Captain Hudson and was imprisoned in Rangoon Prison.

Shergarh Fort is passing through a bad phase today. Due to the administration's lack of attention to its maintenance and repair, it is on the verge of ending its last period.

Located 10 km from Chanari and 60 km from Sasaram, Shergarh Fort is situated on a hill 800 feet high. The Durgavati River rises from the side of this fort.

Shergarh Fort is spread over 6 square miles of land. Eight big bastions were in the fort, of which only five are available now. There is a pond named Rani Pokhara near the fort. This fort is known as the fort of Bhurkunda before the name given by Sher Shah.

Information about the history of Shergarh is found in these two Mughal books, Patrika-e-Sher Shahi and 'Tabak-e-Akbari.' According to Francis Buchanan, a mass massacre occurred here.

For this reason, this fort was cursed and abandoned. Since then, there has been no ruler here, and it has turned into a deserted fortress today on the verge of becoming ruins.
